Meet the scientists behind DDI’s research

DR. FAWAZ ALZAID has a PhD in Human Nutrition from King’s College London, where his studies were focused on glucose intestinal transport. He trained as a postdoctoral fellow in Endocrinology at the University of Westminster, and his work was focused on appetite control in humans. He did a second postdoctoral fellowship at the Cordeliers Research Center (INSERM; Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale), where he worked on diabetes and studied the role of inflammation in insulin resistance and tissue dysfunction.

He was then recruited as a scientific researcher and was later awarded a Higher Accreditation to Supervise Research (HDR, Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) from Sorbonne Université. After the establishment of his ‘Bioenergetics’ group within the Immunity and Metabolism of Diabetes team at Sorbonne Université, he was awarded a National Research Agency Starter Grant (Agence Nationale de la Recherche; ANR-JCJC). He joined DDI in 2022 as a Senior Scientist and is currently leading his research group in France, which is investigating macrophage diversity, cellular energetic adaptation to inflammation, and immunophenotypic profiles of T2D patients.
