DDI Organizes a Workshop Titled ‘The Prevention and Management of Diabetic Foot Complications’
Published on 16/09/2025
The Dasman Diabetes Institute, in collaboration with the Primary Health Care at the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, delivered an intensive workshop titled “The Prevention and Treatment of Diabetic Foot Complications,” held from September 14 to 16, 2025.
Sixteen medical professionals from various primary and secondary care sectors participated in this workshop. The key topics covered in this program included: risk factor assessment, examination and classification, ulcer prevention, principles of ulcer treatment (debridement), infection recognition, off-loading techniques, and many other medical skills and practices, in addition to educating patients on self-care.
The Institute aims to hold this workshop annually, believing in the importance of preventing ulcers and avoiding amputation, which requires regular foot examinations, standardized treatment protocols, and a multidisciplinary approach. Through these practical workshops, DDI aims to enhance the capabilities of frontline physicians, which will have a positive impact on patients’ health and quality of life.
Despite the high prevalence of diabetes in the Middle East and North Africa region, regular foot screening and self-education programs are still not sufficiently implemented in some health systems. DDI continues to bridge this gap through practical training, developing medical guidelines, and organizing awareness campaigns that contribute to the implementation of best practices across Kuwait’s healthcare system.
