Educational Programs

Overview

Helping Children Learn, Grow, and Feel Confident Every Day

Living with type 1 diabetes can feel overwhelming at first, for children and their families. That’s why group education programs are such an important part of diabetes care. These programs bring children, parents, and healthcare experts together in a friendly and supportive environment to learn, share, and build confidence.

Group education helps children understand their diabetes in a way that is simple, practical, and fun. Through interactive activities, games, hands-on demonstrations, and peer support, kids learn how to take care of themselves, make healthy choices, and stay safe during school, play, sports, and daily life.

For families, group sessions provide a space to ask questions, learn real-life solutions, and connect with others who are going through the same journey. This shared learning helps reduce fear, encourage independence, and empower children to take an active role in their own care.

Our goal is to make every child feel supported, understood, and capable – because with the right tools and knowledge, children with diabetes can live full, active, and joyful lives

Dasman Juniors

Dasman Juniors

Another successful program for pediatric group is Dasman Juniors. It aims to help children aged 7-10 years old with type 1 diabetes and their parents lead as normal a life as possible, whilst also maintaining blood glucose levels within the recommended healthy targets, and to reduce the risk of long-term diabetes complications. Dasman Juniors is a group educational program that includes interactive workshops and educational games to cover all knowledge and skills that a child with type 1 diabetes needs to manage their health condition efficiently.

The duration of Dasman Juniors is 5 days. Two days for parents or caregivers only followed by 3 days for the children with diabetes.

Each course is facilitated by two specialists of our pediatric team: an educator and a nutritionist who have expertise in diabetes education and nutrition for children with diabetes. Through the structured education over the course, both parents and children or adolescents learn how to calculate or estimate the carbohydrate content for each meal and adjust their meal-insulin dose. They also gain knowledge and self-management skills to deal with hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, illness, exercise and most importantly insulin doses’ adjustment. The course is interactive, and participants meet other people living with diabetes, and they learn from their experiences as well as sharing their own which results in many cases in more acceptance of their health condition.

Graduates of our program have expressed their confidence in managing their diabetes and reducing the burden on the family. All graduates are followed up and attend a one-day refresher course after 6 months of attending the course.
