Kuwait has one of the highest incidence rates of type 1 diabetes in children, many of whom face challenges in managing their condition. Recognizing these challenges, our Nutrition Unit developed structured educational courses designed to empower children with type 1 diabetes and their families. These courses provide essential knowledge and skills for effective diabetes management, delivered through interactive, group-based sessions, led by experienced dietitians and educators in a supportive environment.
Each course is facilitated by two specialists of our pediatric team:

a diabetes educator

a nutritionist
These programs provide both parents and children or adolescents with the following information:
- How to calculate or estimate the carbohydrate content for each meal
- How to adjust meal-insulin doses
- Knowledge and self-management skills to deal with hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, illness, and exercise
The course is interactive, and participants meet other people living with diabetes, and they learn from their experiences as well as sharing their own which results in many cases in more acceptance of their health condition.

meet other people with diabetes

All graduates are followed up and attend a one-day refresher course after 6 months of attending the course.
