On June 13th 2011, Dasman Diabetes Institute (DDI) celebrated the addition of a crucial element to the pursuit of excellence in diabetes care, as Institute clinicians and staff came together to commemorate the launch of the ReportWriter Health Record. In partnership with the (Division of Clinical Informatics at Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians) in Boston, USA , the Institute has illustrated its commitment to revolutionizing health care in Kuwait through the use of this kind of innovative, cutting edge technology. DDI celebrated with open discussion and feedback gathering over refreshments in the Adult Diabetes Clinic.

The state-of-the-art, web-based infrastructure behind the EHR was only part of the recipe for success, as the Institute’s excellent clinicians and staff have gone to great efforts to take this first step toward the delivery of paperless health care.

With ReportWriter, clinicians at DDI use an optimal mix of structured and unstructured data to maximize efficiency of the clinician, data gathering, reporting and decision support capabilities. Management and public health data acquisition is automatically accomplished during the clinical care process, allowing improved communication between administration, clinicians, their support staff and the patient.

In little over a month of full use operationally, over 5600 clinical data elements were captured and the number keeps growing. This is a big leap forward in the institute’s efforts of going with electronic health records.
