The Dasman Diabetes Institute in collaboration with the University of Dundee and Aridhia Informatics organized the Second Clinical Team Workshop on August 9th, 2010. This unique collaboration aims to draw upon best practice in Kuwait and Scotland to develop and support systems for high quality patient care in Kuwait, with an initial focus on diabetes care.

The workshop was commenced by an Introduction and overview by Mr. David Sibbald, University of Dundee and Aridhia Informatics, followed by an Introduction to Clinical Standards by Dr. Monira Al Arouj, Dasman Diabetes Institute. In addition, Mr. Rodrigo Barnes from Aridhia Informatics talked in detail about the role of Informatics Support in clinical care.

The workshop also consisted of an inter-disciplinary open-ended discussion in groups, where each group appointed a spokesperson to present the views of the group and identifying key themes. The workshop discussed various vital topics including:

  • Clinical communication tools
  • Patient participation in care and data collection
  • Clinical Standards
  • Patient information and education
  • Professional education
  • Leadership and team working
  • Audit and Monitoring
  • Research

This workshop was attended by many health care professionals from the Amiri Hospital and other clinics in Kuwait. The workshop was ended by closing remarks by Dr. Kazem Behbehani, Director General of Dasman Diabetes Institute.
