Dasman Diabetes Institute (DDI), founded by Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science, joint forces with Pro-Vision Sport Management in their recent 642 Marathon that was held on World Diabetes Day, last Saturday, November 14, 2015. Prior to the Marathon, winners from a competition, provided by Pro-Vision, received health advice from the dieticians and health experts at the Institute. Part of the proceeds gathered from the Marathon was attributed to DDI to support the funding of diabetes research.

The 642 Marathon received its name from the total number of muscles existing in our body: 642. There were over 1,400 participants who attended this Marathon and completed the route that started and ended at Souq Sharq, with one of four distances: 5K, 10K, 21K (half a marathon), 42K (full marathon). The male winner of the full marathon was able to complete the distance in less than two hours!

During this event, the countless participants that visited DDI’s booth marked the value of their participation. Free glucose testing was provided at the booth, and health advice was offered to all participants and visitors, where Dr. Faisal Al Refaei, Director of Clinical Services (DDI), delivered health tips during an interview.

Taking part in such events stems from the Institute’s mission to prevent and control diabetes through health promotion, and thereby improving the quality of life. By doing so, a healthier population will arise, and an improved nation will be established.
